American 173rd Airborne shoulder patch with airborne tab in full colour.
This is the full colour version patch which was worn on the early Vietnam combat uniforms and the A class dress uniform. Still worn on the dress uniforms today.
The 173rd Airborne, nicknamed the "Sky Soldiers" was the first major ground troops to arrive in Vietnam, they landed in Vietnam on the 5th of May 1965. The 1st Infantry Division, the 101st Infantry Division and the 1st Cavalry Division would all arrive later.
The 173rd Airborne was the only unit that made a combat parachute jump in Vietnam during operation Junction City.
