The 1940 Battle Dress was also called the Austerity model as it was a simplified version of the 1937 model, even though it’s called the 1940 model it did not really see service until 1942 and was worn by all military services until the end of the war in 1945. It was issued in large numbers for the D Day invasion but there was still many solider wearing a 1937 model.
The wool fabric that Kay Canvas use in there Battle dress uniforms is specially blended using 1940 techniques and old vintage period mills. Everything from the spinning to the blending and dying of the colour of the wool is done exclusively for Kay Canvas.
