The 1943 pattern JG shorts were manufactured in a Green cotton drill fabric so would not fade under the hot and humid climate plus would be rugged enough to survive the harsh conditions of jungle conditions. Also featured 2 large rear pockets for carrying essential pieces of small kit and zinc buttons to prevent rust.

Also featured 2 large rear pockets for carrying essential pieces of small kit and zinc buttons to prevent rust.
In 1943 the British army started designing and issuing a new range of jungle green clothing to replace the vat dyed KD uniforms as previous issued to British and commonwealth uniforms fighting in the jungles of Burma and SE Asia where the KD clothing was found to have performed badly in terms of camouflage and durability.
