1959 Pattern Denison Para Smock

This is the classic 1959 pattern Denison smock that was worn by all Battalions of the British Parachute regiment from the early 1960's until the end of the 1970's, when the DPM Para smock was introduced The 1959 Denison Smock is remembered as the Para smock most often seen worn on Brit Paras in Northern Ireland It was teamed up with DMS Ankle boots, short putties and lightweight trousers and not forgetting the Para Beret.

In post war years the Denison was finally made with a full zip and Knitted cuffs, many soldiers during WW2 and in the 1950's had tailored the smocks with full zips to make it easier to put on and take off, they would also use old socks sewn onto the sleeves to form a tight seal for jumping and when on patrol.

Some of the more well know operations where all battalion’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd of the Parachute Regiment served at different times are.

  • Aden Emergency 1960-1968, South Radfan Mountains
  • Northern Ireland, Operation Banner (Op Banner) Was the name given to the British Army Operation in Northern Ireland from 1969 to 2007 during the troubles.

The Para Denison Smock features

  • Full length Vintage Brass zip
  • Heavyweight denim cotton fabric
  • Nickle press studs painted green
  • Knitted nylon cuffs
  • Rear crotch flap attached at rear
  • Waist adjustable tabs
  • 2 piece panel on rear
  • 4 front cargo pockets with nickel press studs

Now this smock is not perfect with its nylon knitted cuffs but it does offer you the chance to do a impression of a Northern ireland British Para with a set of 1958 webbing, some Green lightweight trousers and a pair of DMS Boots
