This Badge set would have been worn by all Infantry soldiers of the 3rd Irish Guards on their BD Battle Dress uniform in Operation Overlord the Invasion of Normandy as part of the 1st Amoured division The 32nd Guards Infantry Brigade, which included the 3rd Irish Guards who landed in June 1944 Normandy They went on to fight at Caen before joining the advance into Belgium and in September 1944, joined 30 Corps’ advance to relieve the airborne troops at Arhnem Commanded by Colonel JOE Vandeleur made famous by Micheal Caine in the film "A Bridge to Far ". It then fought its way into Germany.
He was a member of the 1st Amoured Gurads Division and so wears the Div patch and Infantry Arm of service stripes on both upper Arms with his Regimental shoulder titles above these.
