During WW2 RAF Aircrew on operations over enemy territory were issued with different pieces of survival equipment like maps printed on silk and worn as scarfs, hacksaws hidden in boot heels and the most importantly the Escape and Evasion button compass. Various models were issued, some innovative ways of concealing them were used such as hidden behind a brass RAF button or sewn into collars.

This escape compass features:
- Solid brass
- Cardinal points of compass North, East, South, West
- Ordinal points NE, SE, SW, NW
- Magnetic direction arrow
- Dry filled so it will not to be affect by altitude and form a bubble
- Diameter approx 15.8 mm but there will be slight variance
- Glass bezel
- Non Luminous
The brass button compass can be a useful tool in your survival kit and this one takes very little space up are still issued in army and RAF survival kits.
