The 1796 light  Cavalry Sword was used  the battle of Waterloo 1812 and the Peninsular campaign by British Light  Cavalry regiments such as the Kings German legion and the 12th princess of wales light dragoons. The Light cavalry sabre was a superb slashing weapon reminiscent of the Indian Tulwar. The Indian cavalry were keen to get hold of discarded blades and remodel them to there own swords. The only problem was the lack of hand protection and it was difficult to use of the horse.

The 1796 Light cavalry sword remained in service until 1821 with regular cavalry regiments and until the 1850’s with some yeomanry regiments.
