British RAF Flight Sergeants Uniform 1939-42

This is the classic RAF Flight Sergeants uniform that would have been worn on duty around the airfield by Royal Air Force Pilots of Spitfire's, Hurricane's and bomber pilots during the Battle of Britain which took place July to October 1940 and after continued in use until 1941. Due to the demand and losses of pilots it was not just officers who could become pilots and they flew side by side.
This unifrom set comprises of the wool serge service dress tunic and trousers by Kay Canvas, RAF Flt Sgts would have worn normal other ranks Service Dress uniform when flying with a shirt and tie.
The RAF Flight Sergeants is wearing Sergeant stripes, Flt Sgt crowns and RAF Sleeve Eagles on each sleeve, and a set of RAF Pilots wings above left breast pocket.
His forage cap has the Kings crown RAF badge proved popular as they could be folded up easy when flying.
The Service Dress uniform was replaced in 1941 by Battle Dress for all Air Crew and by 1943 most ground based airmen.
