A Special MP Armband, Red Top Cap and the white webbing which make the MP Soldier stand out on traffic control. Plus all MP are given the honour of a rank of Lance Corporal so they could then order about private soldiers who would make most of the trouble on a rowdy night out in Colchester or any other of the many Garrison towns in WW2.

The MP is attached to 21st Army Group
A Special MP Armband, Red Top Cap and the white webbing which make the MP Soldier stand out fo rtraffic control. Plus all MP's were given the rank of Lance Corporal so they could then order about private soldiers who would make most of the trouble on a rowdy night out in Colchester or any other of the many Garrison towns in WW2. This MP previously served with 8th Army in North Africa and wears his North Africa Star ribbon on his battle dress.
At the start of WW2 White webbing was only worn for Official duties but when the American MP's arrived in 1942 with their white helmets and webbing it seems to have become more being popular in use with the British MP's. Later on in the war it was standard practice to wear the white webbing for all duties.
21st Army Group was formed in 1943 in the UK and was in overall command of the British Forces that landed in Normandy 1944 and fought through North West Europe until the end of the war and this MP would have been seen through the UK and Europe
