1871 British Oliver Water Bottle (Anglo Zulu War 1879)
British Victorian Oliver Canteen
This was the water bottle or Canteen as it was called back in Victorian times that was worn with the 1871 leather equipment by British Soldiers during the 1879 Anglo Zulu War and has been designed with the help of Erwin Field and worn by the Diehards Re-enactment group. The Oliver Water bottle was worn over the Left shoulder and would have been carried in a leather cradle
Made of wood like a small wooden barrel with a hollow centre so these can actually carry water
- 2 Metal bands around the outside
- Wood drinking stopper
- Screw off metal filler top and leather washer
- Introduced in 1875
