British 8th Army Tank Crew uniform El Alamein 1942
The British 8th Army "Tankies" in the Desert of North Africa were facing Rommel’s Africa Korp Panzers, The british were using a mixed bag of Armoured vehicles from, Stuarts, Cromwell’s and Grants/ Lees to the newly introduced M4 Sherman tanks.at the battle of El Alamein 1942
The British tank crews of 1941/42 were not issued specialist tank uniforms but instead just relied on these KD "tank suits" which proved very popular item and are seen in many original photographs which in actual fact are just normal MT Motor Transport Coveralls that were issued for normal Truck maintenance but these proved very popular with Tank crews as they were lightweight ,comfortable and practical.
The tank crews whether they be Yeomanry regiments or old converted cavalry regiments would have worn the famous tank regiment Black beret with their own regimental cap badge. The tankers would also have worn the Dust and wind goggles and when not in use they would have sat on top of the beret. For personnel protection a Webley MKIV in a modified tankers holster would have hung from his webbing belt.
The KD version of these MT overalls were originally made in India for British Forces as this was normal for a lot of equipment used in North Africa and Far east campaigns
The uniform consists of all the items listed below under the "Pack Contains" heading, here you are able to select any sizes if applicable. The image is indicative of the pack but please refer to the Pack Contains for the items included.
