The long service medal was introduced in 1938 in three grades (8 years, 12 years and 25 years a 40 year service was added later).
The 12 year service medal has a cross design with the police eagle on the front and the words "Für treue Dienste in der Polizei" which translates to "For faithful service in the Police".
The medal was awarded to an active member of the police or an administrator in the police service who had served 18 years.
Silver coloured medal with blue ribbon and a separate embroidered police crest which can be fixed onto the ribbon.
