German WW2 Kriegsmarine Naval Destroyer War Badge by RUM

The German WW2 Kriegsmarine Destroyer War Badge was awarded to officers and crew for service on Kriegsmarine destroyers.

This quality badge has the correct horizontal pin fastener on the back and is made in a zinc alloy. It has the Kriegsmarine eagle on the top of the badge and it features an oak leaf wreath around a destroyer. 

This award was introduced on June the 4th,1940 following the battle of Narvik. The Destroyer badge was was awarded to all personnel serving on destroyers who had participated in three enemy engagements or at least in 12 non-enemy sorties, had sunk an enemy ship in action, wounded in action, or for outstanding performance or other heroic deeds. In all, about six thousand Destroyer War Badges were awarded during the war. 

It was also awarded to the crews of Kriegsmarine torpedo boats and fast attack craft until the institution of the Fast Attack Craft War Badge.
