One of the most recognized awards of the Third Reich, the Knights cross of the Iron Cross was awarded for exceptional bravery, the oak leaves and swords where a further bravery award given to someone who has already been awarded the Knights Cross and oak leaves.

The oak leaves and swords are fixed onto the ribbon suspension loop pin at the top of the cross.
