1943 M1 helmet chinstrap. 2nd model. Tan.
This is the 2nd model pattern khaki (tan) canvas chinstrap which needs to be stitched directly onto the helmet bales on the steel sheel. The cotton webbing weave has 11 rows and is in the correct OD#3 (khaki/tan) colour.
This chinstrap differs from the 1st model khaki chinstrap only by the metal buckle, this one has a flat bar across it. The buckle is brass with a black painted finish.
The 2nd model was introduced from about 1943 at about the same time as the M1 helmet with the moveable swivel bales was introduced so it is normally seen on the later war time M1 helmet with the swivel bales.
