These where fixed to the back of the M1928 doughboy pack on the US Infantry and to the belts of the US Paras.

The M1928 entrenching tool set consists of the M1910 entrenching tool (the model name stayed the same after WW1) and the M1928 entrenching tool cover/carrier (the design of the M1910 cover was changed so the model name changed to the M1928 cover). As the standard WW2 set would have been used with the M1928 model cover we call this the M1928 entrenching tool set.
