These were made to the same pattern as the M36 stone grey wool field trousers but in the new field grey (feldgrau)
The German army changed over from stone grey to field grey in early 1940 after the invasion of France and the low countries. By the time of the Invasion of Russia the new M40 trouser was adopted which aided the soldier with camouflage.
