The M44 was designed to replace the Tornister 39 model pack and due to its large capacity and practicality is became part of the general marching order from all ground soldiers from 1944 onwards, it can be carried either attached to the Y straps, or carried as a rucksack with the extra shoulder straps supplied.
The pack features an internal cotton pocket to carry coking pots, cleaning kit and sew kits etc.
