M1931 Mid War Ertsatz "Brotbeutel 1931" Bread Bag by Richard Underwood Militaria
The German Army bread bag was generally worn hanging on the equipment belt and carried some of the soldiers essentials like the esbit cooker and daily rations.
This is the mid to late war version which had some of the features of the earlier bread bags removed like the leather reinforcement on the belt loops and the two rear D loops to attach the shoulder strap to.

This is the mid war version which is now made of ertsatz fabric which is a lightweight jute/ hessian fabric and has had some of the features of the earlier bread bags removed like the leather reinforcement on the belt loops and the two rear D loops to attach the shoulder strap to.
The Mid war bread bag features:
- Made of Ertsatz ligthweight jute/ hessian fabric
- No leather reinforcement panels on the belt loops.
- No D shaped rings on the back to attach the carrying shoulder strap to.
Belt loops are secured by metal buttons. - Metal belt hook stitched onto a strap between the belt loops.
- 2 Grey painted metal D shaped rings on the front to attach the water bottle to.
- The flap is fastened on the inside by two buttons and black leather straps.
- The one compartment is also secured by a black leather strap and button.
