This belt rig was also issued to the Southern Cavalry of all ranks as their sabre belt.  

As with the Northern Armies the Officers of the South all had swords or sabres and they needed a special belt to carry the sword or sabre, the belt has two straps hanging off the belt with brass clips on the bottom to attach to the loops on the scabbard. The belt could also carry a holster for a revolver, pistol cartridge pouch and a cap pouch, to help carry all that weight on the belt a cross strap is often worn, this belt set includes a cross strap which is removable.

Please note these are the actual measurements of the belts you will need to allow extra length for the belt to fit over shirts and jackets. We find that the medium will fit someone with a 32" to 42" waist when you wear it over the normal amount of clothing. If your not sure, put your uniform on and measure around your waist where you want the belt to fit and use that measurement to work out what belt size you need.

Waist measurements are from the belt buckle on one end to the belt buckle on the other end. You can put extra holes in the leather belt if you need to make them smaller. 

• Medium sized belt is adjustable from 40" to 47" or 102cm to 120cm. (usually fits people with a waist size of between 32 to 38" when you wear the belt over a shirt and tunic).
• Large sized belt is adjustable from 49" to 56" or 125cm to 142cm. (usually fits people with a waist size of between 40 to 48" when you wear the belt over a shirt and tunic).

• The side sword hanger is connected to the belt by fastening on to brass D ring (there is also a brass hook attached onto the brass D ring) which is stitched and riveted onto the belt. There is also a second brass D ring sewn onto the top of the belt here, which is where the cross strap clips onto.
• The rear sword hanger is connected to the belt by fastening on to a brass square, which is where the cross strap is also connected to. The brass square is stitched and riveted onto the belt.
