The Royal Air Force introduced the Type C Flying Helmet, First Pattern, Unwired in late 1941 to replace the B type helmet. Made of Dark Brown Leather with a chamois lining and suede on the forehead it was an improvement on the padded and loose fitting B type. The C type now featured google retaining straps, It was close fitting and made of 6 separate leather panels with a rear elasticated nape allowing the pilot could turn quickly when looking for Bandits without the helmet moving with his head. Rubber cups to hold the microphone ear pieces in.

This C* type is the improved Second pattern introduced in 1944 and used by Fighter and Bomber command it was designed for the fitting of an internal wiring loom for the microphone and headsets. The helmet was the same as 1st pattern but had a small hole cut to accept the mask mounted microphone jack plug, the front set of goggle straps were omitted, a set of 3 press studs on the right side with a clip on the left to take the Type E mask. The only other change was the leather chinstrap was replaced by a fabric cotton one.
