RAF Squadron Leader Battledress Uniform Suit,
This WW2 RAF uniform was worn between 1941 and the 1945 by all Flying Air Crew Officers in both Fighter Command and Bomber command, The Battle Dress uniform replaced the Service Dress uniform which proved impractical inside the cockpits of the modern fighters like the Spitfire and Hurricane . The Squadron Leaders uniform is based on a typical Flying Officer who would have served in the Battle of Britain July 10th to end of October 1940, Our Pilot has been awarded the DFC for shooting down German Aeroplanes like the Messerschmitt ME 109's and the Heinkel He 111, he also wears a ascot tie which with the constant turning of the head to look out for enemy aircraft the collar would rub and so this soft silk like scarf was worn by combat pilots. The Officers SD peak cap has had the wire removed and the edges turn down which is again the sign of a fighter pilot as he would crush up the cap to fit in his cargo bag to take on the aircraft.
