The Russian Caucasian Corps first adopted it in the 1830s. In 1882 a reorganization of the cavalry saw the regular dragoons armed with the shashka. Soviet Cossack cavalry carried this model of Shashka in the Second World War which could also fit the bayonet down the scabbard.

Carbon steel blades are made with a small contents of iron (0.5%) and so will need to be maintained of oil with wire wool/cloth to stop any tarnishing or rusting.
