Gamaschen German Early to Mid War Gaiters by Richard Underwood
Gamaschen German Early to mid War Gaiters by Richard A Underwood
Early to mid war canvas gaiters, these are made just like the first model gaiters which where introduced in 1940 with the single edge of leather around the base but the mid war ones have black leather instead of natural leather.
Gaiters or Gamaschen where first issued to rearguard and replacement units before being issued to front line troops.
These replica gaiters are made of two pieces of cotton canvas sewn together and a single piece of leather stitched along the full length of the bottom of the gaiters. The gaiters are fastened by two leather straps and roller buckles.
The leather is black and the canvas dark green. Excellent reproductions even the size markings are correct which are marked as "II" and "III" for size 2 and 3.
Sizes.
Size 2 is the standard size of gaiter and will fit most people. If you lay the gaiter flat on the floor the top of the canvas measures 36cm and the bottom of the canvas (with the edge with the leather trim) measures 31cm.
Size 3 has the following measurements when you lay the gaiter flat on the floor the top of the canvas measures 40cm and the bottom of the canvas (with the edge with the leather trim) measures 36cm
