This style of bread bag is made from Ertsatz jutef fabric and does not have any leather straps on it. It was for tropical issue and was used in places like North Afrika and this design was later used in Europe.
There are various designs and features of bread bags in WW2 during the war the leather tabs on the back which hold the small D loops on where replaced with cotton webbing tabs. For tropical issue leather items and fixtures where generally replaced by cotton where possible then later in the war when leather became harder to source Ertsatz fabrics like cotton and jute replaced leather in Europe.
Tropical cotton bread bag features:
- Bag made from Ertsatz jute fabric
- Flap is fastened by 2 cotton straps and aluminium buttons.
- Two metal D loops sewn onto the front with cotton webbing.
- Belt loop with metal hook and two belt loops fastened with aluminium buttons.
- Two metal D loops on the back are sewn on with cotton webbing which are reinforced with a strip of leather on the inside of the bag.
