Around Mid 1944 when raw materials were becoming difficult to obtain the German Army made these "Ersatz" K98 bayonet frogs partly from double layered Canvas instead of the normal webbing and the front section from recycled leather like old belts or boots. They were stitched and still riveted to give extra strength.
