German DRK Helferin Munchen District Uniform Set

German DRK Helferin Uniform set combines the DRK dress, armband worn on the left arm, Munchen Arm badge worn on the right sleeve and black shoes.

This Helferin (Helper) Nurse is a junior rank and is wearing the regulation issue stripped dress with white cotton apron which she would have worn while on duty in hospital or serving coffees to the troops,She wears the Red Cross arm Band on the left arm and a Munchen (Munich) Districh sleeve badge on the right arm. The black Service shoes and thick grey tights would also have been worn and over her shoulder she carries a DRK Leather Medical bag which would have had bandages etc inside originally but now has space for plenty of personnel equipment for during the day.

The German Red Cross not only supplied nurses to work in hospital alongside regular nurses, they also supplied Red Cross Nurses to operate rest stops and canteens along lines of communication and transport like at railway stations etc to weary soldiers providing much needed refreshments. They also operated clubs for the troops to rest and recuperate playing games and watching entertainment and these Red Cross workers were known as Betreuungshelferinnen.
