Each pack has a length of 24 inch (60cm) coloured cord in the blue colour of the US infantry, this is the same type of braiding that is sewn onto the enlisted garrison cap of the Infantry and Airborne. but it is a rounded cord (the cord on the caps has a flat piece running along the length so that it can be sewn onto the cap). This braid was used to make neck cords to hang your dog tags from and sometimes to edge the shoulder patch on dress uniforms. It could also be used in a display case of Infantry or Airborne items or edging to a model display or plaque.
