German WW2 SS Camouflage M42 Type 1 Smock Planetree Dark Tone by RUM
Waffen SS M42 Plane Tree Smock Dark Tone By Richard Underwood.
This is print has darker tones (shades) of the colours than the othet planstree smocks we have for sale by Richard Underwoood Militaria.
The Model 1942 or M42 smock was introduced to improve the design of the M40 camouflage smock. The M40 was designed to be worn over the webbing and tunic but the soldiers found it easier to wear the webbing over the smock so the M42 was introduced which had lower pockets with button down flaps and strips of camouflage fabric sewn onto the smock to add foliage for extra camouflage.
The camouflage smock is one of the most iconic items of clothing worn by the Waffen SS in WW2.
The SS M42 camouflage smock is fully reversible and was made in two slight variations the type 1 had lower pockets that where straight and the type II had lower pockets that where angled.
The M42 over smock was designed to be worn over the wool tunic but under the webbing.
This high quality replica of the Model I M42 smock in Plane Tree camouflage by Richard Underwood has all the features of the original German WW2 camouflage smock.

This high quality replica of the Model I M42 smock in Plane Tree camouflage by Richard Underwood has all the features of the original German WW2 camouflage smock including:
- Two lower pockets with pocket flaps which are fastened by zelthbahn style buttons.
- The liners of the lower pockets are made from green HBT fabric.
- There are pocket flaps on both sides of the smock but they use the same pocket you just pull the pocket through to the other side when you reverse the smock.
- Over head design with a low cut opening which is closed by a lace up system.
- Sets of three loops or strips of fabric sewn onto the shoulders and the back of the neck so you can add grass or other foliage to increase the camouflage capabilities of the smock.
- The waist has an elastic cord sewn into it.
- The sleeve cuffs have an elastic cord sewn into them.
- The sleeves are extended so the camouflage covers part of the hands, this was often tucked up or altered to be shorter.
- The smock is fully reversible one side is Spring/Summer Plane Tree camouflage and the other side is Autumn/Winter Plane Tree camouflage which is normally just called Spring to Autumn.
- The fabric is the correct material which is cotton duck and this replica has the correct touch which is a similar feel to a wax jacket, unlike most of the cheaper replicas which are just normal cotton.
