SS Oakleaf 8 man Zeltbahn tent by Richard Underwood Militaria
This was the 8 man Zeltbahn tent that SS soldiers would have made up and lived within, the eight individual zeltbahns would be taken from a section of men and allow these 8 men to sleep and rest at different times, 6 men would sleep while usually 1 would be on guard and the other would be cooking or on other duties, they would then swap around.
The 8 Zeltbahn’s would be buttoned together to form 2 triangle pyramid shape tents at each end and then one section would be inverted to form the connecting wall, one piece could then be propped up to form a door or canopy with extra poles and the two adjacent sections could be folded back to provide a wider opening when required during the day.

The SS Oakleaf Zeltbarn was issued as a rain cape / poncho, there is a flapped hole in the centre and 62 buttons and 32 holes allowing any combination of wear from marching, cycling to making a shelter
