US 2nd Lieutenant Rank with Early Pin Back

American WW2 Officer's 2nd Lieutenant metal rank insignia with the early pin back fitting and not the standard clutch back fasteners.

These 2nd Lt. rank bars have the pin back fasteners (like a safety pin fastener) which are ideal for fixing onto the Officers A class tunic epaulettes.

The pin back fastener on insigina are usually called early war issue but they where also used on private purchase insignia and British made insignia.

The pin back fasteners are best for the A class epaulettes because the place where you fix the rank onto the epaulettes has a few layers of fabric so the pin back fastener are easier to fix on and they stay fixed on better than the clutch back fasteners. Clutch back fasteners are fine for caps, and shirt collars of shirt epaulettes where the fabric is not as thick.
