US Air force USAAF Branch of Service Cord

United States Army Air Force branch of service cord.

24 inch (60cm) length of coloured cord in the colours of the WW2 USAAF, this is the same type of braiding that is sewn onto the enlisted garrison cap of the U.S.A.A.F. but it is a rounded cord (the cord on the caps has a flat piece running along the length so that it can be sewn onto the cap). This braid was used to make neck cords to hang your dog tags from.

I saw an original WW2 enlisted A class tunic at a show in America a few years ago which was worn in the war by a soldier in the tank destroyer units and he had sewn a length of tank destroyer branch of service braid around his tank destroyer patch and I have always remembered it as looking rather smart. I have since seen one other tunic badged the same again a Tank destroyer but if it was good enough for the tank destroyers it must have been good enough for rest of the army.
