US Army 1st Pattern Jungle Fatigue Tropical Jacket Vietnam War
In 1962 Natick laboratory designed and introduced a green combat uniform made in a lightweight fabric for use in South East Asia by the US Army Special Forces. The uniform is what we now call the 1st pattern tropical jungle uniform the combat uniform later developed with improvements through several patterns to the very popular 3rd pattern which became the standard fatigues or uniform worn in the Vietnam war.
This high quality replica of the first pattern tropical jungle jacket is made with a special poplin cotton (non-ripstop) fabric which is slightly heavier than the ripstop fabric used on the 3rd pattern uniform.

The first pattern was first issued to the Special Forces but as more troops arrived in country it was issued to more soldiers in different branches until the later pattern suits where developed. The US Army 1st pattern tropical trousers are easily identified by the exposed buttons and the poplin (non- ripstop) green fabric.
