US Presidential Unit Citation Award
The American Army Presidential Unit Citation (PUC), is awarded for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy on or after 7 December 1941. The unit must display such gallantry and determination in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions so as to set it apart from and above other units participating in the same campaign.
The PUC has been awarded in World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan.
It comes mounted on a bar, ready to wear and is worn above the right pocket. All members of the unit may wear the decoration, whether or not they personally participated in the acts for which the unit was cited, but they had to be assigned to the unit at the time of the action. In WW2 this was worn by both the Army and Air Force after 1947 the Air Force issued a smaller sized PUC.
Units awarded the PUC in WW2 included; 101st AIrborne, 82nd Airborne, 3rd Inf Div, 7th Arm Div, 10th Arm Div. Etc.
