US WW1 M1917 Tunic 5th Infantry Div with Ersatz buttons Original
Original American M1917 WW1 wool tunic.
The tunic has a nice US 5th Infantry Division shoulder patch, war service stripes and a discharge stripe. It also has the metal Infantry branch of service collar insignia.
The best bit is the ersatz buttons, these where introduced to save materials and are made from things such as the nuts of palm trees. These buttons had a whole in the middle so they could be sewn on. You do not see many tunics with these buttons.
The tunic has a nice colour but there are a few moth holes in the front lower pocket, sleeve cuff, upper shoulder of the arm and halfway up the arm.
Size: Laid flat across the chest 53cm.
