The version with the pin back fastener, which this has, is sometimes refered to as British made or early war fitting. With the pin back also called brooch fitting on the back it sits differently on the tunic compared to the style with the clutch back fitting. It sits away from the tunic where as the clutch back sits flat on the tunic so it can be noticed that you are wearing a pin back fitting badge. The original design by William P. Yarborough did have the pin back back fastener, which is why is often called the early war badge.
