In WW2 the US Air Force formed their own construction unit, the Aviation Engineers where to advanced air bases, repair damaged air strips or camouflage buildings etc. The Aviation Engineers had all the heavy equipment needed including diesel tractors, bulldozers, carry-all scrapers, graders, gasoline shovels, rollers, mixers, asphalting and concreting equipment.
