USN and USMC parachute jump wings Para wings badge
Full size USMC para jump wings.
Gold coloured parachute jump qualification wings. Worn by the American Navy (USN) and the American Marines (USMC). Worn on the dress uniforms.
Marines and Navy personnel have to qualify and pass the standard US Army jump school standards when they are awarded the normal Army jump wings. To be awarded the USN/USMC jump wings you would then have to complete extra jumps these being:
- Completed an additional 5 static line jumps which must include 3 combat equipment jumps (1 day and 2 nights) and jump from at least the different types of aircraft.
The USN/USMC jump wings where introduced during WW2 by the USN Parachute Rigger School. The USMC 1st Parachute Battalion also wore this badge instead of the normal Army type wings as they liked the design.
In 1963 it officially became a USMC award, previously it was only officially worn by the USN.
