Originaly in WW1 the German gas mask was issued in a cloth bag to be worn on the belt, but this did not protect the mask against trench life and the natural elements of rain and mud. 

So during the war the German army started issuing metal canisters to carry the gas mask.

This replica M1916 gas mask tin will hold the mask and one filter.

Included is a canvas shoulder strap.
